研究背景・目的

    地球を取り巻く放射線帯(図１)は、高エネルギー(MeV)の電子に満ち溢れています。これらの電子は短い時間スケールで時間変動し(図２)宇宙飛行士の被爆・人工衛星の障害・極域中層大気へ降り込みという形で人類の活動に影響しますが、その生成・供給機構はよくわかっていません。
    私たちは、プラズマ波動・粒子相互作用によって放射線帯電子が高エネルギーに加速されていると考えています。プラズマ波動の一種である電磁サイクトロン波は、ヘリカル型の電磁場構造を作りながら伝搬します(図３)。このヘリカル構造と電子のジャイロ運動が一致して共鳴すると、電子を効率良く高エネルギーに加速できると予想しています（Omura et al. 2007)。
    このプロジェクトでは(１)電磁サイクロトロン波の生成機構の解明と(２)電子加速散乱機構の理論の実証、の２つの科学目標に取り組むとともに、ここから広がる宇宙プラズマ物理現象の研究や、将来の観測に必要な機器開発を行う予定です。

研究計画

1. 波動粒子相互作用の非線形成長理論の構築

ジオスペース探査衛星「あらせ」の波動データを用いて、非線形成長理論に基づいて周波数変動を伴うコーラス波動のモデルを作成し、その中で多数の粒子の軌道計算を行うことで粒子分布関数の変動を表す数値グリーン関数を求める計画です。そして、内部磁気圏に注入される電子の分布関数とグリーン関数との畳み込み積分から放射線帯の形成過程を再現します。

2. MMS 衛星の観測への応用

磁気圏の磁気リコネクション領域を探査するMMS 衛星のプラズマ波動およびプラズマ粒子の観測によって、空間的に螺旋構造をもつ電磁サイクロトロ ン波を検出し、その時空間の解析から波の伝搬方向、成長、減衰の詳細な変動を検出することを考えています。

3. 波動粒子計測機器開発

アナログ回路とデジタル回路を統合したアナログデジタル混載型ワンチップのプラズマ波動観測器の実現に取り組みます。粒子観測装置は、検出器を含む解析部の小型軽量化が課題である。装置を小型化すると粒子の入射面積が減るため感度が下がります。そこで、小型軽量アナライザーを面方向に必要数だけ敷き詰めたものを最小のアナライザーとし、これらの部品を重ねていくことで必要な感度を確保する予定です。数値実験・衛星探査の結果から次期衛星の観測要求仕様を求め、機器の性能バランスに反映させる計画です。
